7-Zip is a file-compression utility like WinZip, WinRAR. Feature wise it is comparable to most other compression utilities. It supports a wide range of compression format and also has its own 7z format which offers good compression ratio.
It is especially useful for user that deals alot with unix compression format on Windows as it can open and create .tar, .tar.gz, .tar.bz2 format.
However one feature sorely missed in 7-Zip is drag and drop. GUI users are accustomed to dragging and dropping actions to accomplish file system tasks. A file system utility lacking this is a serious handicap.
This handicap is now history.
Now in the latest version (4.23) drag and drop finally arrived. Nothing now stands in the way of compression utilities domination.
Free, functions, format support, superior compression and now DRAG AND DROP. Except not wanting to change, I cannot think of any reason not to use 7-Zip.
If anyone has a reason, I like to learn of it.
Where to get it?
Current version: 4.23
Function: File compression utility
