The free software series

Free softwares have come a long way. From being just hobbyist pursuit to what is now, solid applications that rival full-fledge commercial equivalent.

Joy is to see free softwares take root on my personal computer. Joy is complete when freedom reign the whole desktop. Glancing at my desktop, that day is near.
Except some stubborn applications refusing to be replaced, free software practically rule my desktop. Not just test installs, these are applications that are used everyday.

Thanks to all the work that had gone into open source and free software. Looking forward to replace all applications on my desktop with free software.

This series journal my search for free desktop, the pains and gains of using them and introduces the worthy ones - my small contribution to help spread the open source gospel as the day nears.

The journey begins …

Just take note that there are subtle distinction between “free”, “open source” and other similar softwares although I used the terms rather loosely. I’m sure there is chance for more on this in future.
